only one, just one, alone

The sentence format changes a little, object + classifier + diaao. Again, drop the classifier if it’s the same as the object.

phûu-chaai khon diaao

only one man

khon diaao

just one person

măa dtuua diaao

only one dog

hâwng diaao

just one room

năng-sĕuu lâem diaao

only one book

áaep-bpêrn lûuk diaao

just one apple

thee-wee khrêuuang diaao

only one TV

khráng diaao

just one time

We also use diaao to mean ‘alone’, at the end of the sentence following the classifier.

chăn nâng thêe nêe khon diaao

I am sitting here alone

Jane maa khon diaao

Jane came alone

Peter jà khàp ród bpai grung-thâep khon diaao

Peter will drive to Bangkok alone
