The conjunctions ‘with’ and ‘and’ are very similar, but are used in slightly different ways. Let’s begin with ‘with’.
gàp · with
The sentence form is:

This first conjunction is mostly used with people, as in these examples (including negatives):
chăn bpai gàp khun
I go with you

he goes to swim with them
phŏm dtâwng gaan nâng thêe nêe gàp khun
I want to sit here with you
khun bpai thêe nân gàp Peter
you go there with Peter
ther tham gàp phûuak khăo
she did it with them
phŏm mâi bpai gàp khun
I don’t go with you
khun mâi bpai thêe nân gàp phŏm
you don’t go there with me
Peter mâi bpai gàp Jane
Peter doesn’t go with Jane

I don’t want to sit here with them

láe · and
We use láe to add or include, such as ‘knife and fork’ or ‘Peter and Jane’. We’ll use it later with nouns, but for now we’ll practise with pronouns and names.
